Rick’s Cafe and Kool Runnings in Jamaica

Ricks-Cafe-Jamaica-party

If you find yourself in Negril, Jamaica there are two attractions you’ll probably find yourself exploring. That’s Rick’s Cafe and Kool Runnings. There’s not a whole ton of places to see unlike the capital Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. However, these two stand out and are worth mentioning.
So let’s dive into the differences between them explore the options and what you can expect should you decide to visit.

First Stop: Cliff Diving

Rick’s Cafe has been a favorite spot in Jamaica from as far back as 1974. It was established by Richard Hershman affectionally called Rick and hence the name that it is now known by. The spot is famous for (as the title suggest) cliff diving. As a tourist, you have the opportunity to jump from heights as high as 40 feet into the beautiful Caribbean sea.
That’s right; this is a spot for people who know how to swim. There are lifeguards on duty if something serious happens and you dive at your risk (the location is not responsible for any accidents or deaths).
Another draw to this excellent spot is the booze and delicious foods. There are some specialty items here such as Jerk Chicken and other delicious food that is authentic to Jamaica and the Caribbean.
If you love watching the sunset, it’s also a great area to chill out and relax while the sun disappears beneath the horizon. It’s an easy spot to reach too. You just need to hire a taxi driver, and you’ll be there in no time.

Second Stop: Kool Runnings Water Park

There are not a ton of water parks here in Jamaica, but Kool Runnings take the prize as one of the best spots on the island paradise to have a fun time.
There are activities such as kayaking, go-kart riding, rafting, canoe adventures and much more. The main draw to this attraction, however, is the huge water slides which draw in thousands of visits every year by locals and tourists alike.

Water Slides Include:

Jamaica Bobsled Ride – The largest at the attraction. It was appropriately named after the Jamaican Bobsled Team. It provides you with twists and turns in a tube into the water below. Simply amazing.
Kick Pupalick – This slide requires that you have some swimming experience as you somersault into the pool below. It’s fun waiting to happen.
Green Grotto – This uses creative imagery to give you an amazing 3D experience as you go through the slide. An adventure is waiting to happen with this one.
Others also include the Sly Mongoose, Duppy Conqueror, and Lightning Bolt. See more by looking at the kool runnings slides.

Tired of Negril?

If you get a little bit tired of Negril, you can take a rented car or hop on a bus and head over to Ocho Rios. You’re likely to find a ton more attractions here.
There’s Dunn’s River Falls, Blue Hole, Dolphins Cove, Rafting, Konnoko Falls, Mystic Mountains and more that you can experience.
You’re likely to find much more tourists here compared to Negril as well. If you have any questions, call your hotel or resort that you’re staying with and ask if they can arrange a trip for you. If not, you can also just call the attraction directly and see what accommodations can be made for picking you up or at the very least how you can get to the spot you’re interested in checking out.
